A gas spring is a sealed cylinder filled with pressurised gas that pushes a piston rod outwards. On a tailgate or boot lid, two gas springs take the weight of the lid so it lifts easily and stays open.
Three values define each ZEIK gas spring: the extended length, the stroke (how far the rod travels) and the eject force, expressed in newtons. A replacement has to match all three, plus the end fittings, to hold the lid in the same position as the original. The catalogue lists these values for every reference.
Gas springs lose force gradually as the gas escapes past the seal, and a lid that drifts closed or needs a hand to stay up is the usual sign. They are replaced in pairs so both sides push evenly.
